The Canadian Union of Postal Workers is currently in negotiations with Canada Post which could result in a postal strike starting on Friday, Nov. 15, 2024. Should a strike occur, residents are reminded payment is still required to ensure bills/accounts are current.

Today, Council received the 2025 proposed budget, which includes a 2.99 per cent increase for operating expenditures and two per cent increase for an infrastructure levy for a total tax levy increase of 4.99 per cent. The annual infrastructure levy for capital reserves is necessary to ensure the Town can continue to invest in the capital infrastructure that residents rely upon. Georgina’s water and wastewater budget includes its own costs, as well as the water and wastewater costs billed by York Region.

The Town of Georgina, alongside local organizations and business stakeholders, is announcing events from Oct. 21 to 25, 2024, in celebration of Small Business Week. This initiative highlights the invaluable contributions of small businesses that form the backbone of Georgina's economy.

Sunkist Road at Highway 48 will be closed for two days starting Oct. 7, to install a culvert underneath the existing roadway. 

Detour signage will be posted and road access will be allowed for local residents and emergency vehicles. Drivers can use Burnie Road and Sunset Beach Road to access Highway 48.

The Town of Georgina is proud to announce its selection as one of four host communities for the 2025 Economic Developers Council of Ontario (EDCO) Regional Professional Development Events. Each year, EDCO opens a call for regional community hosts, and through a careful selection process, four communities are chosen to host these significant events. Along with Georgina, the 2025 regional events will be held in Sudbury, Rideau Lakes and Brantford.

On Sept. 30, 2024, at 3:30 p.m., in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, the Town of Georgina, in partnership with the Chippewas of Georgina Island First Nation, will hold a flag-raising event at the Civic Centre. Residents are welcome to attend this event commemorating the tragedy of residential schools in Canada and their continuing impact on Indigenous communities.
